Single Site (Single Incision) Gastric Banding
Advances in surgical instrumentation and techniques have enabled placement of a Gastric Band (either the LapBandTM or Realize BandTM) in many patients through a small single incision, instead of the more traditional four to six incisions. This single incision can sometimes be placed within the umbilicus or "belly button," where it will be very well hidden. Candidates for this operation should be assured that the result with regards to function of the banding procedure is exactly the same as for those undergoing a more conventional laparoscopic Gastric Banding. The main differences are that there is virtually no scarring from the surgery, and there may be less pain and a lower risk of wound infections.
