Our surgeons, Dr. Roger A. de la Torre and Dr. J. Stephen Scott, were among the first to ever perform a Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y Divided Gastric Bypass. Their unique method for performing this procedure has been adopted by many bariatric surgeons nationwide. Furthermore, they were among the select few involved in the Food and Drug Administration trials for the Adjustable Lap Band. Their success along with the results of others led to the approval of this device by the FDA. More recently, Drs. Scott and de la Torre, became among the first surgeons in the Midwest to perform a Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy on select patients. They routinely perform all of the aforementioned operations, as well as revisional bariatric surgery, laparoscopically. The laparoscopic approach is a minimally invasive way of performing surgery, which leads to less pain, fewer wound complications and a quicker return to normal activities. Surgeons
